ENERGY SAVING TIPS From  MSDA

 LIGHTING SYSTEM:
a Switch off lights and other appliances when not in use.

b A 15-watt Compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) produces the same amount of light as 60-watt Ordinary lamp, they use 20% of the energy for the same amount of light produced.

c 90% of the energy consumed by an ordinary bulb is given off as heat rather than visible light.

d Dirty tube lights and bulb reflect less light, they can absorb upto 50% of the light.

 AIR CONDITIONERS/MOTOR/PUMP SETS:
a Use energy efficient appliances- more BEE Stars markings means more Savings.

b Use ceiling or table fan as first line of defence against summer heat. Ceiling fans cost about 20 p./ Hour to operate compared to AC’s which cost Rs.6/ Hour.

 REFRIGERATORS:
a Make sure that refrigerator is kept away from all sources of heat, including direct sunlight, radiators and appliances such as oven, and cooking range.

b Allow hot and warm foods to cool and cover them well before putting them in the refrigerator; then refrigerator will use less energy and the amount of condensation will come down.

 COMPUTERS:
a If your Central processing unit (CPU) must be left on, turn off the monitor; this device alone uses half the energy of the entire system.

b Setting computers, monitors to go into sleep mode when not in use helps cut energy cost by approximately 40%.

c Battery chargers, such as those for laptops, cell phones and digital cameras, draw power whenever they are plugged in and are very inefficient. Pull the plug to ensure that they are not drawing any power.
